General Questions

Who can become a member of NECSA-K?Membership to the NECSA-K Alliance is open to any credible environmental civil society organization or interested individuals (from the public or private sector) who can commit to NECSA-K objectives. To be considered for membership, an interested CSO must be registered in Kenya and have clear environment objectives. Membership is approved upon signing a membership form.

New members are admitted through introduction by an existing member and are then approved by the executive committee. It is also this committee that advises the Alliance on admission of other categories of membership from time to time.

NECSA Kenya is a nationwide environmental advocacy alliance and works in all 47 Kenyan counties through nine chapters: Coast, Nairobi, Central, Eastern, North-Eastern, North Rift, South Rift, Nyanza and Western of Kenya. These regions face different environmental and natural resources management issues for advocacy.

The headquarters of the alliance are based at the Forest Action Network (FAN) offices in Karen- Muiri Road, Nairobi. NECSA-K also has an office in Njoro-Egerton Golf Estate, Nakuru at the Forest Action Network.

No, the Alliance does not interfere with any of the members’ activities unless invited by the specified member and is subject to approval by the executive. Furthermore, all members enjoy their institutional autonomy for all their acts and omissions except when acting for or on behalf of the alliance.

 

In addition, all members shall:

  • Enjoy same status and privileges under the engagement guidelines and principles
  • Assume to act for or on behalf of the NECSA-K when issued with written authorization from the executive committee from time to time.
  • Members that will have endorsed a binding decision and official position of the NECSA-K will be expected to respect and observe the decision and position issued by the NECSA-K or under the authority of the executive committee.
  • Respect the principle and rules of procedure of the NECSA-K at all time.

Technical Questions

NECSA-K advocacy planned activities are around six thematic areas of environment and natural resources management. They include: Forestry; Oil and Gas; Water/ Wetlands; Minerals; Marine; Climate change mitigation; and Wildlife.

To halt depletion of forestry due to fires, infestations, clear-cutting, burning, land conversion, effective exploitation and conservation and fair distribution of revenues

Oil and Gas

Policies to improve oil and gas environmental footprint.

Water and Wetlands

Sanitation, clean water, reduced industrial waste and pollution

Minerals

Sustainable mining methods, participation, equity and social benefits to the community

Marine

Sustainable exploitation of resources, regeneration and conservation of marine environment

Wildlife

Against illegal activities, bushmeat hunting and poaching, habitat loss, human-wildlife conflicts

 

NECSA-K will provide technical and educational support to its network and partners to strengthen collaborations influencing anticipated changes.
