CIVIL SOCIETY'S VOICE FOR NATURE

NECSA-K is an alliance of a number of networks and individual CSOs. The alliance acts as a civil society platform for the membership to articulate and advocate for issues on the environment and natural resource management in Kenya.

The alliance generates rigorous and collective advocacy action on behalf of its civil society whose participants comprise international, national and local based organisations/associations and CBOs. NECSA-K’s strategic niche is its ability to effectively bring together diverse CSOs, networks of CSOs and CBOs and other active organisations to influence national and local policies relating to proper environmental and natural resource management in Kenya. Due to its consistence and valuable contributions in the policy processes, more CSOs have joined the alliance with membership growing from the initial 29 to 53 registered member organizations.

In May 2012, the alliance co-hosted, together with WWF, the environmental civil society organisations conference. This conference was graced by H.E. Amb. Ann Dismorr, Ambassador of Sweden to Kenya & Permanent Rep to UNEP. During the conference, the Alliance’s strategic plan and website were launched. This strategy has been a key strategic management tool guiding the alliance in ensuring the effective management and governance of the Kenya’s environment and natural resources.

The 2017-2022 Strategic Plan came to an end and a new had to be consolidated. Thus, the 2022-2026 strategic plan provides a framework within which both strategic and operational decisions will be undertaken by the alliance while maintaining flexibility for the unique needs of individual members and networks. The plan therefore sets out the vision, mission and strategic objectives that will help guide the alliance in its work over the next 5 years.
