DRIVING CIVIL SOCIETY ACTION THROUGH LOBBYING & ADVOCACY

With the financial and technical assistance of the BMZ-OD project, the National Environment Civil Society Alliance of Kenya (NECSA-K) has been able to successfully advocate for sectorial reforms using enhanced coalitions, networks, forums, partnerships and working groups advocating for community land rights, community forest access and user rights, environmental management and pollution control, climate change mitigation, protection of wetlands, marine, wildlife, and water ecosystems. NECSA-K has advocated for all the development projects to place environmental, social, cultural and economic considerations of affected communities at the center of the Environmental and Social Impacts Assessment processes and procedures. Under these projects, NECSA-K carried out policy dialogues, engagements with duty bearers and strategic stakeholders’ engagement on policy advocacy processes including:

Reviews of the National Sanitation Policy 2030;

Petition against the varying forest boundaries section of the Forest Conservation and Management Act
2016 34(1);

Memoranda on Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) reports for the proposed Makamini Dam in Kinango Sub-County, Kwale County and ESIA Reports for the Proposed Quarry in Elementaita and for the construction of the Rironi - Mau Summit Express Highway, Draft Environmental Management and Coordination Bill, 2021; and Natural Resource (Benefit Sharing) Bill 2021.
