National Environment Civil Society Alliance of Kenya Engagement Guidelines and Principles

THE NECSA-K ALLIANCE’S ENGAGEMENT GUIDELINES AND PRINCIPLES   
1.1 PREAMBLE  
In Kenya today there exists a number of sector specific coalitions. These networks and  coalitions include the Kenya Forests Working Group; The Kenya Climate Change Working  Group; Kenya Wetlands Forum; Kenya Water Partnership, Kenya Marine Forum, and the Kenya Wildlife Conservation Forum, Kenya Coalition for Wildlife Conservation and Management, Shelter forum, Kenya Oil and Gas Working Group. Many organizations are
also networks and alliances by nature and represent wide groups of stakeholders in the sector. Unfortunately, all these sectors do not have platform to address and plan national environment advocacy and collective action at any time leading to isolated advocacy efforts. Civil society also have an opportunity in the review on natural resource legislations as part of the requirements of complying with the new constitution. This requires one voice
for environment Civil Society organizations in Kenya herein after referred to as CSOs.
These engagement guidelines and principles provides for the rules of procedure, meetings, conduct, the functions and responsibilities for the National Environment Civil Society Alliance of Kenya. The engagement guidelines and principles recognize the need for members of the NECSA‐K to relate harmoniously and resolve conflicts with credible operational procedures, conducive to function, recruit, and retain members. The engagement guidelines and principles shall facilitate communication, interaction and relationship within the membership and its constituency. It will promote cohesion between members and assist strengthening the confidence among the membership and the constituents.  
 
1.1.2. Guiding principles and values  
The purpose of these engagement guidelines and principles is to ensure smooth operations of the NECSA‐K in order to achieve its objectives in an effective and efficient manner.
The objects of the guiding principles are to:  
a. Provide for objective and transparent engagement for NECSA‐K members, Committee and the Secretariat.
b. Outline a structure for communication and accountability.
c. Recognize that all  members are equal partners and players in the  NECSA‐K  
d. Promote ethics and integrity as cornerstones of the  NECSA‐K  
e. Uphold Objectivity and professionalism in all  NECSA‐K  actions and activities
f. Provide advocacy a platform for civil society engagement
